Google has recently provided select institutions with restricted access to its advanced conversational AI tool, Gemini. As reported by The Information on September 15, Google has allowed a handful of companies to explore the capabilities of Gemini, even though a broader release is still in the pipeline. This innovative product boasts a suite of large language models (LLMs) that can power chatbots, generate and summarize text, and even produce code and imagery.

While the initial rollout of Gemini is somewhat limited, its future iterations are set to rival the capabilities of OpenAI’s models. Developers can expect to access Gemini through Google Cloud Vertex AI, a platform that offers a range of AI models and tools. Although Microsoft has previously collaborated with OpenAI, Google has been channeling its investments into generative AI in other areas.

The broader availability of Gemini has not been officially announced by Google. However, insiders familiar with the matter have been cited by The Information. Google has, however, confirmed the existence of the product, which was initially introduced in May 2023.

In addition to Gemini, Google has been actively pursuing various AI initiatives. For instance, in late August, they announced other AI-related news. They also offer AI services tailored for consumers via Bard. Notably, Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, is among the tech leaders attending an exclusive AI summit.
